Firefighters still desperately trying to put out the fire at Anexco Tower

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is trying to figure out the cause of a fire at the Bangabazar wholesale clothing market adjacent to Fulbaria in the capital. 

A CID team visited the spot at 9:30am on Wednesday. CID Special Superintendent of Police (DMP South) Anisur Rahman said the origin of the fire is yet to be determined.

The fire broke out at Bangabazar at 6:10am on Tuesday and burnt the Bangabazar wholesale clothing market to the ground in hours.

The fire service has yet to fully extinguish the flames, as firefighters were still desperately trying to put out the fire at Anexco Tower at 10:29am on Wednesday.

The blaze started spreading again on Tuesday evening, after it had been brought under control just after noon.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the fire service have formed two separate panels to probe into the incident.

There are four markets – Bangabazar Market, Mahanagar Market, Adarsha Market, and Gulistan Market – in the area. People refer to all of them together as Bangabazar Shopping Complex. Traders said that there are about 3,000 shops in these four markets.
