A camp has been held at Fuvahmulah City by Chinese ophthalmologists as part of ‘Chinese Ophthalmic Experts Bright Journey in Maldives’.

Doctors, during the one-day camp, provided consultations and eye prescription services.

As per the Chinese Embassy, over 120 patients, ranging from 24 days to 88 years, were treated by the doctors.

Fuvahmulah Hospital’s Health Service Manager Mohamed Shirar attributed the camp to the government’s policy on facilitating specialist medical services in atolls. He stressed that many patients were able to consult ophthalmologists without incurring huge expenses.

“The camp was extremely beneficial to the public. It is not easy to consult specialists in Male’ even,” he added.

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin and Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeg attended the camp where they visited the medical team and patients.

Shirar noted discussions were held with Ambassador Wang to facilitate additional opportunities for consultations with Chinese doctors in Fuvahmulah City.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the camp, Ambassador Wang pointed out that medical cooperation is an important part of China-Maldives relations and is blazing the trail for a new model of cooperation with success, to not only help Maldivian people back to light, but also strengthen Maldives’ self-development capability and help the nation build its own eye centre in the future.
