18 National Players Advancing for 31st Summer World University Games

Eighteen athletes from Nepal posing for a group photo before boarding their flight for an international game "31st Summer World University Games".

Team Nepal from Sports Federation, today morning flew towards Chengdu, China to participate in an international game "31st Summer World University Games" usually known as Mini-Olympics around the world as the competition is open for every players to participate in every kinds of games organized.

The competition was dated for 2019 when different obstacles like Asian Games and a global pandemic halted the game. It is finally being organized at Chengdu, China starting from 28th of July (12th of Shrawan) and extending till 5th of August(20th of Shrawan).

This competition was organized in Korea in 2015, Taiwan in 2017, Italy in 2019 and was destined to organize at Chengdu in 2019, which was later postponed to be held in 2023. Likewise, it is assumed to be held in Germany in 2025.

This year, eighteen athletes from Nepal are participating in different games of 31st Summer World University Competition on their own expenses. Including Badminton, Wushu, Taekwondo, Fencing, Table Tennis and Athletics, this year with a total of 18 athletes and 5 officials are heading to Chengdu with the purpose of slaying the competition. General Secretary Mr. Purna Singh Bohora, head of delegation had already gone to Chengdu yesterday along with 2 other fencing players.

President of Nepal Wushu Federation, Bir Bahadur Tamang, before boarding his flight expresses, "the way Nepal Overseas Chinese Association and different organizations has loved and supported our Wushu players is a matter of great pride for us. Nepali national players, including me, all want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts". Mr. Tamang adds, "though government is not being able to support players right now, Sports Federation is always working to return the expenses players had to bear while presenting in an international platform with their own expenses".

Nima Gharti Magar, two times Wushu gold medal winner, in a thankful voice expresses, "I would like to thank the managers of SATV family, Nepal Overseas Chinese Association and Chinese Electric Vehicle Showroom J.L. for being here to see us off with respect and support. In addition, I express my gratitude to everyone who has given us financial support to go China and also would like to assure that we will make rightful use of your support".

Akchyat Sherchan, a participant in University Games 2023 hopes his hard work will pay off. With a spark in an eye, Serchan exclaims, "I will try my best to win gold for my country. Even if I would not be able to win the gold, I am proceeding with a confidence that I will surely break the national record".

Ashok Shrestha, the official delegate of National Sports Council says, "to be honest, we have not been able to prepare to our best, but we are aiming to get good success this time as well. Olympic athletes between the ages of 19 to 27 will also be participating as competitors, so we will advance with the attitude of expecting tough competition still giving our best".
