China, Poland, Brazil and Japan reached the women's volleyball semifinals at the Chengdu Universiade here on Thursday.
China swept the Czech Republic 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16 to maintain their unbeaten record at this Universiade. Wu Mengjie led China with 14 points, with Zhuang Yushan and Miao Yiwen adding 12 and 10 respectively.
China will now take on Poland, who beat Italy 25-22, 27-25, 16-25 and 25-16 earlier on Thursday.
"I think we are playing better than we did in the preliminaries. Hopefully we can keep improving in the match against Poland," said China head coach Zhao Yong.
In the other quarterfinals, Brazil overpowered Hong Kong, China 3-0 and Japan whitewashed Germany by the same scoreline. Brazil and Japan will meet in Friday's semifinals.
