Subash Nemwang, CPN UML Leader Passes Away; Funeral Will be Held Tomorrow

Subas Nemwang, the vice-president of CPN-UML and former president of the Constituent Assembly, has passed away. UML leader Khimlal Bhattarai informed that he died due to a heart attack during treatment at the University Teaching Hospital. It is said that after he suffered a heart attack at his residence in Baluwatar, his family took him to the University Teaching Hospital, but the doctors declared him dead. Nemwang won from Ilam-2 in the House of Representatives elections held last November. He is also the deputy leader of the UML parliamentary party.

The Prime Minister wrote, "I am saddened by the news of the untimely death of Comrade Subas Nemwang, Chairman and former Speaker of the Constituent Assembly. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family while paying heartfelt tributes to the late Comrade Nemwang.

The funeral of Nemwang, has been scheduled for Wednesday due to the absence of both his sons abroad. Nemwang’s family sources have confirmed that the funeral will take place tomorrow.

Nemwang was the Speaker of the House of Representatives which was re-established in 2063, the Speaker of the Legislative Parliament in 2064, and the Speaker of the Constituent Assembly in 2065 and 2070.

Similarly, he became a member of the National Assembly from 2048 to 2052 and then again became a member of the National Assembly. He was elected from Ilam 2 in the House of Representatives Election 2065 and he was also elected from Ilam 2 in the Constituent Assembly Election 2064 and 2070. Elected from Ilam 2 in the House of Representatives election in 2074, Nemwang was a member of the Law Committee, the deputy leader of the parliamentary party and the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in 2056.
