SATV, 4th Feb. On February 1st, the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University successfully held the opening ceremony of “Auspicious Long and Prosperity Spring Festival” series and thus opened the window for 30 of its teaching points to celebrate the similar programs. On the occasion of the Year of the Dragon Professor Dr. Achyut Wagle (Registrar of Kathmandu University and the Nepali Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University), Dean of Kathmandu University School of Management, Dean of Kathmandu University School of Arts, Dean of Kathmandu University School of Education, principals of the teaching points of Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, teachers and students of the Confucius Institute along with more than 150 people attended this event.
This event was divided into two parts. The first part being the indoor performance, with the theme of “Celebrating the Year of the Dragon” and the second part being outdoor fun and sports, with the theme of "Vibrant and Happy Spring". The event site was filled with joy and was decorated with lanterns, Chinese knots, firecrackers and other decorative items related to Chinese culture which created a strong Chinese festival atmosphere.
At the beginning of the event, Professor Li Shuangcheng (Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University) delivered a warm welcome speech. He first expressed his warm welcome to all the guests, teachers and students to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival together and wished everyone a happy Chinese Year of the Dragon. Then he briefly summarized the achievements of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University during the past year on the basis of Chinese language teaching, cultural promotion, academic exchanges, etc. Later, He expressed his appreciation for the teachers who won awards in the first Nepalese local Chinese teacher teaching skills competition and for the students who won the awards in 22nd Chinese Bridge Competition organized for Nepali College Students. The students also expressed their sincere congratulations and looked forward for the active participation in the programs organized by Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University on the year 2024.
The event was started with the warm welcome speech of Professor Dr. Li Shuangcheng (Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University) followed by exciting performances from the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University itself and many of its teaching points. The first performance was a cheerful song and dance "Congratulations", followed by solo singing “Mouse Loves Rice”, solo singing "I Like You", "Endless Love"(guitar playing and singing), Chinese version of the Nepali song "Come Out from Every Village", dance "Special Love for Special You", song "Love Each Other, “Chinese Kung Fu "Shaolin" etc. The cheerful music, dynamic dance, soulful singing and Chinese Kung Fu were all amazing and was giving the vibes of rich Chinese and Nepali culture. Apart from these, Chinese teacher Qiu Guangmin also performed calligraphy art at the scene, allowing people to feel the charm of Chinese culture and the joy of celebrating the New Year The first phase of the celebration ended in a warm and joyful atmosphere.
Afterwards, Professor Dr. Achyut Wagle (Registrar of Kathmandu University and Nepali Director of Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University) delivered a speech where he expressed his joy and best wishes for the Chinese New Year affirming the achievements of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University over the past year. He also pointed out that the past year has put forward new requirements and good wishes for the development of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University.
The sports section in the afternoon was also a unique event. Teachers and students participated and competed in various interesting activities and the environment was full of joys and cheers. Whether it's skipping rope or tug of war, every sport was enjoyed by the participants, which lasted until 4:30 in the afternoon. The sports being a kind of physical exercise also promoted mutual communication and unity and welcome the New Year and the arrival of spring with a new attitude.
