Confucius Institute at KU successfully held teaching skills competition for local Chinese teachers

 Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University held the first Teaching Skills Competition for local Chinese teachers in Nepal on January 7, 2024, starting from 10 o'clock. 

Currently, there are 8 Chinese language teaching institutions and more than 50 local Chinese language teachers in Nepal contributing to the cultural exchange through localization of international Chinese language education.

Director Li Shuangcheng of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University expressed, "It is particularly necessary to hold a teaching skills competition for local Chinese teachers in Nepal in order to observe, learn and jointly improve the overall level of Chinese language teaching in Nepal".

Director Li further pointed out that many educational institutions in Nepal can jointly organize such teaching skills competitions at least once a year and gradually expand and improve the condition of Chinese Language teaching.

After two rounds of fierce competition in the preliminaries and finals, six local Chinese teachers were selected who demonstrated their unique teaching methods and skills in the competition.

The judges conducted strict evaluations based on teaching procedures, teaching methods, teaching effects and comprehensive performance. The contestants also carefully designed teaching procedure and used modern teaching methods such as multimedia demonstrations, interactive teaching, etc. to stimulate student’s interest and enthusiasm in learning which resulted to active participation in learning and achievement of good teaching results.

After the Competition part of the event was completed, Dr. Liu Yunhai (Head of the Chinese teachers Volunteer Association in Nepal) commented on the teacher’s performances. With his many years of overseas teaching experience, he fully affirmed the teaching syllabus, teaching skills and lesson plan preparation.

Teacher Zhu shan (Niroj Maharjan) from the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University won the 1st position of this teaching skills competition with his standard pronunciation, humorous conversation and flexible teaching skills.

Two teachers including Pa tima (Pratima Bhujel) and Bi neiya (Binaya Hada) won the second prize and Three teachers including La bina(Rabina Maharjan), La simi (Laxmi Twayanabasu) and Na bin (Nabin Bhaila) won the third prize. Their outstanding performance was highly praised by guests, judges and attendees.

Professor Balmukunda Regmi (Nepalese director of the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University), Miss Xiao Jiang( Director of the China Cultural Center in Nepal), Dr. Liu Yunhai (Head of Chinese Volunteer teachers association in Nepal) ,  Miss Wu Yuan (Head of Confucius Classroom at LRI), Miss Wang Lisa (Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University),Mr.Yang Shuai(Chinese teacher at Bishwo Bhasa Campus ), Professor Li Shuangcheng (Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University) , some local Chinese teachers and more than 50 people participated in this event.

The teaching skills competition not only demonstrated the excellent style of local teachers in Nepal, but also provided a platform for teachers to communicate and learn. The Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University will continue to hold teaching skills competitions like this in cooperation with other Chinese language teaching institutions to make positive contributions to the continuous improvement of the quality of Chinese teaching in Nepal.
