SATV 4 DEC, KATHMANDU:On Tuesday, The Sichuan Traditional Medicine Overseas Tour—Traditional Medicine Culture Festival was held with great enthusiasm in Kathmandu, Nepal. The event aimed to foster understanding of traditional Chinese medical culture and strengthen the longstanding friendship between China and Nepal.
The program featured prominent figures including the Acting Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Wang Xin, President of the Southwest Medical University-affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Hospital Liu Jian, former Nepalese Health and Population Minister Mohan Bahadur Karki, and other distinguished representatives from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, and Southwest Medical University.
The festival commenced with a video message and best wishes from Yin Chun, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of TCM Management. Highlighting the global reach of TCM, Chun emphasized its potential to play a transformative role in Nepal's healthcare development.
Former Health and Population Minister Mohan Bahadur Karki applauded the cultural and medical value of TCM in Nepal. He noted the significance of starting TCM's global journey from Nepal, symbolizing mutual cooperation and friendship. He further suggested Nepalese doctors and concerning authorities to do homework on chinese traditionalmedicine as it resembles nepalese traditional medicine somehow, and cooperate with them.
While Acting Ambassador Wang Xin expressed hope for stronger Sino-Nepalese cultural ties. Remembering the current visit of Rt, Hon. Prime minister KP Sharma oli’s visit to China, He expected to the increment of the coordination in overall sector along with the chinese traditional medicine to lift the Sino Nepalese friendship to the newer heights. He informed audiences about the upcoming events that are being organised by Chinese Embassy to Nepal.
One of the key outcomes of the festival was a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Nepal’s Tribhuvan and Kathmandu Universities and Southwest Medical University. The agreement focuses on resource sharing, academic exchanges, and the integration of TCM practices into Nepal’s healthcare system. Representing their respective institutions, Prof. Dr. Ujjwalman Joshi from Kathmandu University and Liu Jian from Southwest Medical University formalized the partnership.
The event also honored Prof. Dr. Anand KC with a commendation for his contributions. Workshops led by Professors Ao Shuhua and Wang Yongzhou from Southwest Medical University offered insights into TCM techniques, medicinal herbs, and their applications. An interactive Q&A session added to the program’s engagement, with prizes for correct answers sparking audience enthusiasm.
In the closing session, participants were introduced to Ba Duan Jin, a traditional Chinese exercise aimed at promoting heart health. The festival emphasized TCM's benefits and showcased its potential for global healthcare, reaffirming the belief that such cultural exchanges strengthen bilateral relations and pave the way for a healthier future for both nations.
This event marked another milestone in enhancing Nepal-China ties through cultural and medical diplomacy.
