Appreciation of China Southern Airlines and China Tourism Day Celebrated in Kathmandu

SATV 21 May, Kathmandu: China Tourism Day was marked in Kathmandu along with the appreciation of China Southern Airlines on Tuesday evening with a special event jointly organized by China Southern Airlines, China culture center and china tourist office. The event brought together members of Nepal’s business and travel sectors, Chinese business representatives, government officials, and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Yang Wenfu, General Manager of China Southern Airlines in Kathmandu, highlighted efforts to strengthen the China-Nepal flight network and expressed optimism about further collaboration to boost tourism and aviation ties between the two countries. China celebrates Tourism Day on May 19 to honor the legendary Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake.

Xiao Jiang, Director of the China Cultural Center in Kathmandu, highlighted the significance of China Tourism Day during a recent event. "We commemorate the great traveler Xu Xiake, who penned his first travel journal on May 19, 1613," she stated, explaining the origin of this special day. The director showcased the distinctive logo derived from the ancient Chinese character for 'travel', noting how "blue symbolizes vast possibilities while green represents ecological sustainability." She emphasized tourism's unique value in "bringing us closer to nature, transcending time to explore civilizations, and promoting cultural exchange."

Mohan Prasad Suwal, representing the China Tourism Office in Kathmandu, delivered a presentation showcasing China’s natural beauty, cultural richness and historical landmarks. He highlighted major Chinese festivals—such as the Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival—and iconic sites like Xi’an, the Terracotta Army and the Forbidden City.

The China Southern Airlines, in the event awarded their top 5 ticketing agents in order to inspire the agencies in larger sales. The event witnessed the gifts to the participants creating the laughter and joy. The three lucky participants got the round trip China-Kathmandu-China while others were also given some gift hampers.

China, home to 59 UNESCO World Heritage sites, ranks second globally in cultural and natural heritage. It is a leading source of outbound tourists and also welcomes many Nepali visitors each year.
