SATV Kathmandu Oct 07: Following a search operation on Mera Peak, a Korean climber has been confirmed dead and his Nepali guide rescued. The two had gone missing over the weekend due to deteriorating weather conditions, officials reported on Monday.

The body of a Korean climber has been recovered, officials added.

The deceased has been identified as a 46-year-old South Korean national, while guide Temba Sherpa was found alive during a rescue mission coordinated by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

According to Tulsi Singh Gurung, president of the Nepal National Mountain Guides Association (NNMGA), the rescue was carried out on Monday by IFMGA-certified guides Riten Tashi Sherpa and Ashish Gurung, who were airlifted to the site from Kathmandu.

The climber's body and the Nepali guide were located at an altitude of around 5,800 metres. Officials believe the Korean climber succumbed to hypothermia after being stranded in snow while descending.

Mera Peak, standing at 6,476 metres in Solukhumbu district, is Nepal's highest trekking peak and remains a popular challenge among mountaineers for its demanding high-altitude conditions and panoramic Himalayan views.
