SATV, Kathmandu, Sept. 23: The Lalbandi-Salempur 132 kV double-circuit transmission line has come into operation, improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply in the southern areas of Sarlahi district.
The transmission line stretches from the Nawalpur Substation in Lalbandi Municipality-1 to Chainpura in Chakraghatta Rural Municipality-7, Sarlahi, according to Nepal Electricity Authority. Similarly, the 132/33/11 kV substation constructed at Chainpura under the Lalbandi-Salempur 132 kV Transmission Line Project has also come into operation.
The substation has two 132/33 kV power transformers with a capacity of 30 MVA each and one 33/11 kV power transformer with a capacity of 24 MVA.
With this, the total capacity of the substation has reached 84 MVA, said the NEA. Five 33 kV feeders and six 11 kV feeders have been installed at the substation to distribute electricity to the surrounding areas.
With the operation of the transmission line and substation, electricity supply is expected to become more reliable and of better quality in Malangawa, Haripur, Haripurwa, Dumariya, Barahathwa and other areas of Sarlahi.
The project is also expected to help reduce power leakage and minimise problems such as low voltage and frequent power interruptions caused by tripping.
The project will also help manage the growing electricity demand in the area and strengthen the overall power supply system.
Managing Director of NEA Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha said the authority had given high priority to providing customers with reliable and quality electricity service at adequate voltage.
He said that the authority was moving ahead with the planned expansion and strengthening of transmission and distribution infrastructure across the country.
A contract about worth Rs. 1.13 billion was signed in March 2023 for the construction of the approximately 20-km transmission line and substation. The contract came into effect in April 2023.
The project was constructed with investment from the government of Nepal and the NEA.
