President Md Abdul Hamid offered his Eid-ul-Fitr prayers along with hundreds of Muslims from all walks of life at the National Eidgah in Dhaka on Saturday morning.
It is his last Eid as president of Bangladesh as he is scheduled to hand over the charge of his office to president-elect Mohammed Sahabuddin at 11am on Sunday, according to Bangabhaban.
Noted personalities, including the chief justice, cabinet members, Supreme Court judges, lawmakers, senior political leaders, and top civil and military officials also offered prayers at the main Eid congregation held on the premises of the High Court at 8.30am.
After the prayers, President Hamid exchanged greetings with fellow Muslims at the Eidgah.
The president usually attends Eid prayers at the National Eidgah, but in the last three years, the program was scrapped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Khatib Mufti Ruhul Amin Faridpuri conducted the Eid prayers.
A special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for the peace and progress of Bangladesh and the welfare of the people as well as the Muslim Ummah.
A sound and long life of the president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also sought.
A special dua was also offered seeking eternal peace for the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the sake of the county and its people in different democratic movements, particularly during the Liberation War in 1971.
Dua was too offered to seek eternal peace for the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and others who faced martyrdom on August 15, 1975.
The Eid jamaat was held under the auspices of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Special arrangements were made for women to offer Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.
Intensified security measures were taken in and around the prayers ground.
Earlier, on his arrival at the Eidgah Maidan, the head of state was received by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, DSCC Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan and others.
