Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) handed over IT Engineer Kamrul Hasan Sabbir to the Banani police station early on Tuesday, a daunting 33 hours after he had gone missing following his work.

Sabbir was allegedly picked up by plainclothes individuals in a microbus in the Banani area on Sunday, who claimed to be part of the administration.

He was officially handed over to the police station at approximately 4am on Tuesday.

A case has been registered against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act, accusing him of having connections with the banned militant organization Hizb ut-Tahrir.

Before this development, Sabbir's wife, Rahima Aktar, had filed a General Diary (GD) with the police station.

She said: "After my husband left the office, a group of people forcibly took him into a microbus. At that time, a colleague was with my husband. They identified themselves as law enforcement personnel and mentioned their intention to return my husband home that night.

"I intended to mention in the complaint that my husband was apprehended by some members of the administration. However, the police insisted that I file the GD as a missing person report; otherwise, they would not register the GD," she continued.

Subsequently, the police submitted the report, designating Sabbir as “in hiding" in the GD document.

Sub-Inspector (SI) SM Shamsur Rahman of the Banani police station said: "RAB handed over the missing individual to the police station after filing a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act."

He further added that Sabbir had been brought before the court.

A relative of Sabbir, named Arif, said: "Sabbir was brought to the police station at 4am. I have heard that they have filed a case against him with some documents. We are on our way to the court."
