Secretary Humayun Kabir of Ministry of Railways said that this railway will not only connect Cox's Bazar with Dhaka, but also with southern region and northern regions as well through Padma Bridge in future.

He said this while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Dohazari to Cox's Bazar railway project at Cox's Bazar railway station on Saturday.

The railway secretary said that Matarbari deep sea port will also be connected later.

At the same time, overpasses and underpasses have been constructed under this project for wildlife sanctuaries, he added. 

The inauguration program of Chittagong-Cox's Bazar rail line has started with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joining it at the Cox's Bazar iconic railway station.

Sheikh Hasina reached the Cox’s Bazar railway station at 11:35am on Saturday.

Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan and local lawmaker Shaimum Sarwar Kamal received her at the station.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the much anticipated Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar Rail Line on Saturday, but it will be opened to traffic on December 1.

With this inauguration, rail connectivity with the beach city will finally be implemented, 133 years after the first initiative was taken during the British period, before the birth of Bangladesh.
