SATV, Kathmandu, January 24 — A vibrant night banquet and cultural exhibition marking the Chinese New Year was successfully held in Kathmandu, organized by the Chinese embassy. The event showcased performances by Chinese artists residing in Nepal as well as visitors from China, delighting attendees with a rich array of artistic expressions.
The celebration saw the participation of prominent figures, including Honorable Devaraj Ghimire, Speaker of the House of Representatives; His Excellency Chen Song, the Ambassador of China to Nepal, Home Minister Ramesh Lekh, former Prime Ministers Baburam Bhattarai and Jhalnath Khanal, along with former ambassadors to China and other distinguished guests.
Regarded as one of the most significant festivals among the Chinese community, the Spring Festival carries a history of thousands of years. The tradition has been rooted in the remembrance of the Nian monster, which brought hardship but was ultimately driven away by red clothing, fire, and fire crackers etc.
Ambassador Chen Song extended heartfelt greetings for the Chinese New Year while also commemorating 70 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China. He offered special wishes to all Nepali citizens and Chinese nationals in Nepal celebrating the New Year on Magh Shukla Pratipada, stating, "For those of you working away from home, we will ensure you never feel a lack of belonging. Today’s program is a testament to that commitment." He expressed optimism that this year would serve as a vital milestone for Nepal's tourism, as the country celebrates Visit Nepal Year with substantial support from China.
Moreover, the ambassador assured that China remains dedicated to providing further assistance across various sectors in Nepal. He highlighted that all entry points connecting the two nations are currently open, reiterating their readiness to offer support and strengthen the ties between Nepal and China.
Speaker Ghimire emphasized the symbolism of the Year of the Snake, representing tranquility and strength, as he extended New Year wishes to all. He expressed hope that the 70th anniversary of Sino-Nepal relations would further enhance the friendship between the two nations. The Speaker acknowledged China's significant contributions to Nepal's development and noted the cultural similarities that bind the two countries.
The evening was filled with spectacular performances by various artistic groups from China, captivating the audience with exquisite music and dance. The delightful presentations contributed to a festive atmosphere, making the New Year celebration a truly memorable event.
