Entrepreneurs have said that herbal exports from Nepalgunj, which is considered a 'hub' for herbal export, have been increasing in recent times.
Information Officer of Nepalgunj Customs Office, Pabitra Kumar Khadka, said that about 1.3 million kilos of various herbs were exported from this border point from mid-July 2025 to mid-February 2026 of the current fiscal year.
He said that herbals worth Rs. 396 million were exported from this border point in the first seven months. This is 33 per cent higher than the corresponding period of last fiscal year 2024/25.
According to Nepalgunj Customs Office, herbal exports have increased by more than Rs. 100 million during the review period as compared to corresponding period last fiscal year. The pine nuts have been exported for the first time from this border point this year.
According to the office, 39,486 tonnes of pine nuts worth Rs. 632,000 have been exported during the first seven months of the current fiscal year. The Herbal Business Association, Banke, said that exports could not increase as expectation due to the imposition of 100 per cent tax on pine nuts exports.
President of Herbal Business Association, Tanka Prasad Sharma, said that if the export tax is reduced, the export of pine nuts will increase significantly.
The highest exports to India from the Nepalgunj border are timur, kaulo, satuwa, bojho, cinnamon, and amala. He said that 85 per cent of the herbs exported from Nepal are exported to India.
Stating that herbal exports have been increasing again in the past few years, he said that if the government introduces a policy to facilitate herbal exports, exports will increase further and employment will also increase in the country.
