SATV, Kathmandu, Aug. 31: The Nepali adaptation of renowned Maithili playwright and director Mahendra Malangiya’s play Dehpar Kothi Khasa Diya, titled Nilo Sindur, is set to be staged at Mandala Theatre in Kathmandu from September 4 to September 20.

Translated into Nepali by Dhirendra Premarshi and restructured for the new production, the play is being presented through a joint initiative of Rangasutra Nepal, Hills Home Theatre and Sanrakshan.

Jointly directed by Rambhajan Kamat and Pushparaj Awasthi, the play was previously performed at the Malangiya Festival held in Delhi.

The story centres on the human crisis caused by poverty, unemployment, helplessness and the lack of access to healthcare. Nilo Sindur explores issues of justice, human dignity and the moral responsibilities of the state towards its citizens.

More than the tragedy of a single family, the contemporary social drama raises questions about citizens’ right to live with dignity and society’s responsibility towards vulnerable people.

The play features Prabhakar Sharma, Dipak Prasad Acharya, Pushparaj Awasthi, Rupesh Mandal, Rina Rimal, Birendra Singh Kushwaha, Tripti Shrestha, Chandrashekhar Rai, Utsav Karki and Rajiv Yadav, among others.

The stage and lighting design has been conceived by Jhakendra BC, while the set has been constructed by Home BC, Prem Chand Pandey is handling lighting operation, Shreekrishna Shahi sound operation and Sunil Mallik music. Suraj Gharti Magar is responsible for stage management, while Sabin Neupane is handling marketing management.
