A Disappointing Week for Nepal’s Stock Market, NEPSE Closes at 2,587

SATV, Kathmandu, October 3: Nepal’s securities market witnessed an overall decline this week. The NEPSE Index fell on four of the five trading days, with only a marginal recovery recorded on Thursday.

The NEPSE Index, which stood at 2,613.33 points on Monday, dropped to 2,587.25 points by Friday, the final trading day of the week. Overall, the index declined by 37.55 points during the week.

On Monday, the first trading day of the week, the NEPSE Index fell 16.47 points to close at 2,613.33 points. The Sensitive Index also declined by 1.34 points to 467.67 points.

A total of 13.17 million shares were traded on Monday, with the total turnover exceeding Rs. 5.38 billion. Among the 13 subgroups, only the Trading subgroup recorded a gain, while all other subgroups declined. Share prices of 49 companies increased, while 224 companies declined and six remained unchanged.

The downward trend continued on Tuesday, when the NEPSE Index fell another 9.62 points to 2,603.71 points. The Sensitive Index declined by 1.01 points to 466.65 points.

A total of 11.06 million shares were traded on Tuesday, with turnover exceeding Rs. 4.65 billion. Although the Non-Life Insurance and Others subgroups recorded gains, the remaining 11 subgroups declined. Share prices of 69 companies increased, while 199 declined and 10 remained unchanged.

On Wednesday, the NEPSE Index fell below the 2,600-point mark. The index declined by 4.82 points to close at 2,598.89 points.

A total of 12.65 million shares of 352 companies were traded on Wednesday, with turnover exceeding Rs. 4.76 billion.

The Trading subgroup gained 38 points on Wednesday, while the Hydropower and Mutual Fund subgroups also recorded modest gains. All other subgroups declined.

Sindhu Development Bank recorded a 14.37 percent increase in its share price, ranking among the top gainers of the day. In terms of turnover, Ghalemdi Hydro Limited led the market with transactions worth more than Rs. 394.8 million.

After three consecutive days of decline, the market recorded a marginal recovery on Thursday. The NEPSE Index increased by just 0.26 points to reach 2,599.15 points.

A total of 12.06 million shares were traded on Thursday, with turnover exceeding Rs. 4.89 billion. Development Bank, Commercial Bank, Finance and Hydropower subgroups recorded gains, while the remaining subgroups declined.

Sindhu Development Bank’s share price increased by 10.11 percent. Siddhartha Bank led the market in terms of turnover, with transactions exceeding Rs. 305.3 million, while Hathaway Investment Nepal recorded the highest number of transactions.

On Friday, the final trading day of the week, the market again witnessed a double-digit decline, bringing the week to a lower close.

The NEPSE Index fell 11.90 points to close at 2,587.25 points. A total of 11.91 million shares of 356 companies were traded, with total turnover exceeding Rs. 4.29 billion.

The unit price of the 10.75 percent NMB Debenture 2089/90 increased by 14.26 percent, while the unit price of the 10.75 percent SBL Debenture 2089 rose by 8.80 percent.

On the other hand, Sindhu Development Bank’s share price declined by 8.55 percent. Share prices of Dhaulagiri Microfinance, Muktinath Krishi Company, Apollo Hydropower and Sarbottam Paints also declined.
