A mobile court has sentenced a Dhaka College student to one year imprisonment and imposed a Tk200 fine after he was caught giving a proxy exam at the Jahangirnagar University undergraduate admission test for the 2023-24 academic session.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) M Ashraful Rahman handed down the order.

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University detained Sagar Hossain, a third-year student of the History Department of Dhaka College, from the Faculty of Social Sciences building on Sunday.

Later, the room inspector handed him over to the university's security branch, where he confessed to the crime.

He said he sat for the exam for Tutul Hasan from Rajshahi in exchange for money. He was later handed over to the Ashulia police circle, from where he was produced before the mobile court.

In this regard, Proctor ASM Firoz Ul Hasan said that Sagar confessed to giving a proxy exam. “We handed him over to the mobile court. The court will punish him considering the extent of the crime. It will be investigated whether anyone else is involved in such crimes.”
