SATV, Kathmandu, June 24: The National Statistics Office (NSO) has reported significant progress in the ongoing Second National Economic Census 2082, with data collected from more than 1.35 million establishments across the country.

According to a report issued by the NSO, a total of 1,351,331 establishments have been enumerated by June 21 which was the last date for data collection. Of them, a total of 1,344,661 establishments were covered through paper questionnaires, while 6,670 establishments submitted information through the e-Census system.

By comparison, the first economic census in 2075 had covered 923,356 establishments, including 917,470 through paper-based questionnaires and 5,886 through electronic submissions. The field-level data collection for the census was completed on June 21.

Some establishments have already obtained e-Census tokens but have not yet started filling out the forms, while others have submitted only partial information. In addition, a number of businesses have voluntarily informed the authorities that they were left out of the census.

The office has urged businesses and institutions that have submitted only partial information, were missed during the field survey, or have informed the authorities that they were left out to contact their respective District Economic Census Offices to ensure their inclusion in the census.

The District Economic Census Office will be open until July 16, 2026 and then it will be closed. The census is being conducted under the slogan “Economic Census for Measuring the Economy” with the objective of obtaining a comprehensive statistical picture of the country's economic activities.

The field enumeration for the National Economic Census began simultaneously across the country on April 15. For this purpose, 3,907 enumerators were mobilised, while 526 supervisors were deployed.

In addition, 504 management teams at the district level and a 53-member core group at the central level were assigned to oversee the operation. Each enumerator involved in the census collected an average of 344.3 forms during the field-level data collection campaign, said NSO.

The NSO said the census aims to collect detailed information on industries, trade, service sectors, public and private institutions, employment, production and service delivery.

The data generated from the exercise will help strengthen estimates of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), facilitate the revision of the national accounts base year, and support evidence-based policy formulation and development planning.

The NSO said data coding and entry work will be carried out in the next fiscal year, while census results will be published in phases beginning within six months.
