SATV, Kathmandu, July. 16 - The Madhes Province Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed the Madhesh Province Government’s budget for the fiscal year 2026/27.
After the main opposition obstructed Assembly proceedings over various aspects of the budget, Speaker Ram Ashish Yadav had formed a seven-member parliamentary task force to break the deadlock.
On Tuesday, the task force presented a unanimous report to the Assembly containing a 10-point recommendation aimed at ensuring effective budget implementation and resolving disputed issues.
Accepting the recommendations, Minister for Economic Affairs Yubaraj Bhattarai said the government would incorporate them into the Appropriation Bill.
Following the task force’s recommendations, 18 provincial assembly members participated in the discussion on the budget.
They argued that the budget was distribution-oriented rather than inclusive and urged the provincial government to rectify its shortcomings.
Responding to the concerns raised during the debate, Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav pledged that the provincial government would take the lawmakers’ suggestions into account while implementing the budget.
He said the budget introduced by the present government was more progressive than those of previous years and claimed that it would help address the shortcomings of past budgets.
He added that the budget had been formulated in line with the development plans submitted by provincial lawmakers and that, despite limited resources, it had given top priority to the agricultural sector.
After the Chief Minister concluded his response to the discussion,
Minister Bhattarai tabled a proposal seeking the passage of the Appropriation Bill, 2026. Speaker Yadav put the proposal to a vote, and it was
passed unanimously.
Likewise, the Provincial Assembly also unanimously endorsed the Madhes Province Finance Bill, 2026, after Speaker Yadav presented the proposal moved by Minister Bhattarai for a decision.
With the passage of both bills, the Madhes Province Government has secured the legal authority to carry out its financial transactions in the upcoming fiscal year.
The Provincial Assembly has been adjourned until further notice.
