In Bangladesh, numerous Muslims celebrate Eid in sync with Saudi Arabia, maintaining a long-standing tradition
The holy Eid-ul-Azha, one of the two major Muslim festivals, is being celebrated in some upazilas of Chandpur, Kurigram, Dinajpur, Tangail, Moulvibazar, and Pabna districts amid religious fervour in line with Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
In Chandpur, residents of 40 villages, who are followers of Sadra Darbar Sharif of Hajiganj upazila are celebrating Eid on Wednesday as Hajj was completed on Tuesday.
The main congregation of Eid-ul-Azha was scheduled to be held at 8:30am at Sadra Madrasa Eidgah, said Peer Shaikh Arif Chowdhury.
The late Maulana Ishaque introduced the practice of Eid celebration in Chandpur in line with the celebration in Saudi Arabia in 1931.
In Kurigram, the residents of four upazilas are also celebrating Eid-ul-Azha on Wednesday.
A total of five Eid congregations are set to be held in Bhurungamari, Chilmari, Rowmari and Char Rajibpur upazilas of the district.
Police are set to provide three-tier security measures during the congregations.
In Dinajpur, residents of as many as six upazilas are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha, and around 3,000 Muslims participated in the main Eid congregation held at around 7:45am.
The main Eid congregation was held at a community centre in Basuniapatty of the district.
In Tangail, 50 families of one village in Deluduar upazila in celebrating Eid.
Local Imam, Abdur Rahman, said that the Eid prayer was held at 8am, and hundreds of people participated.

In Moulvibazar, hundreds of Muslims from several districts participated in celebrating Eid-ul-Azha, in line with Saudi Arabia.
The main Eid congregation was held on the rooftop of a residential building in the Circuit House area.
Imam Abdul Maofiq Chowdhury said that Eid is celebrated every year in Moulvibazar with Saudi Arabia.
In Pabna, over 150 families of a village in Sujanagar upazila celebrated Eid-ul-Azha in line with Saudi Arabia.
The main congregation was held at Nakibiya Darbar Sharif at around 10am.
