Law enforcers have remained on high alert in Aminbazar area of Savar, entrance to Dhaka through Gabtoli.

Armoured vehicles have also been kept ready in the area.

Security has been strengthened to avoid any untoward incident around the BNP's sit-in program in Gabtoli and counter program of Awami League and its associate bodies.

Around 9am on Saturday, a large presence of police was seen on the Dhaka-bound lane on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in front of the Aminbazar 20-bed hospital.

According to the police, five platoons of 20 policemen have been deployed in Aminbazar.

Besides, an APC bullet proof white coloured armoured vehicle has been positioned.

However, no leaders and activists of the two parties were seen in the morning.

Dipak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said: "We are always active considering all aspects of security. Our policemen are present to avoid any untoward incident.”

Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops and Traffic North Division) Abdullahil Kafi said that the program that has been announced does not have the approval of DMP. Aminbazar and Gabtoli are gateways to Dhaka, this is a very important road.

There is no scope for illegal activities here, he added.

The opposition BNP and its alliances have announced sit-ins at important entry points into Dhaka on Saturday

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the program on Friday at what was described as a mega rally.

The ruling Awami League also announced to hold sit-ins, in response to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) programs at important entry points into Dhaka on Saturday.
