A separate ward has been opened for dengue patients at RMCH
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) is experiencing a surge in dengue cases, a consequence of the persistent rains of the monsoon season leading to water-logged conditions and an upsurge in the Aedes mosquito population.
As a result, a separate ward has been opened for dengue patients, and experts are calling for vigilance.
As of Wednesday, 32 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospital.
After receiving treatment for four days, 21 people have returned home in a healthy state.
As of now, 11 dengue patients are receiving treatment in the hospital's ward no 30.
Medical specialists state that most dengue patients have a travel history. It is believed that they contracted dengue during their travels. So far, no critical conditions have been observed among the dengue-infected patients.
Meanwhile, specialists are urging for heightened awareness.
Dr Mahbubur Rahman Khan Badshah, a medicine specialist at RMCH, urged everyone to be cautious, especially in the case of children and the elderly.
He emphasized that if dengue symptoms are detected, it is imperative to consult a specialist, or else severe complications may arise.
RMCH Director Brig Gen Shameem Ahmed reported that most patients admitted to the hospital with dengue had returned from Dhaka.
“It is possible that they brought the dengue virus to Rajshahi when they came to celebrate Eid. Some of them were identified with dengue after being admitted to the hospital with a high fever. A special team has been formed to treat dengue patients, and they are receiving treatment there,” he said.
However, Shameem Ahmed reiterated that everyone should stay vigilant at this time.
