Railway lines in the capital came to a halt as hundreds of temporary railway workers staged a protest, demanding job permanence and an end to outsourcing.

Taking a firm stance, these workers blocked the railway line near the FDC in Kawran Bazar around 10am on Sunday.

The incident resulted in the Titas Express, bound for Brahmanbaria, being stranded at Kawran Bazar.

The workers highlighted that around 7,500 temporary workers were hired nationwide through advertisements and have been working in the railways for 12-14 years. The initial agreement was to grant them permanent positions within 3-4 years.

However, the railway authorities have failed to fulfil this commitment. Instead, the workers expressed anger over the announcement of new hirings through outsourcing to contractor companies, which excludes them.

The protesters have vowed to continue their demonstration on the railway line until their demands were addressed.
