KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 2
Dengue infections have surpassed 6,000 cases nationwide, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
The mosquito-borne infection has been detected in all districts except Humla and Mustang, said Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of Vector-Borne Disease Control at the Division.
Dr. Dahal reported that a total of 6,347 dengue cases have been confirmed across the country, with three fatalities attributed to the infection so far. Among the seven provinces, Gandaki Province has recorded the highest number of cases, with 2,954, while Karnali Province has the lowest, with 93 cases.
The Division also reported 791 cases in Koshi Province, 100 in Madhesh Province, 1,612 in Bagmati Province, 444 in Lumbini Province, and 432 in Sudurpaschim Province.
In the Kathmandu Valley, 680 dengue infections have been recorded, including 511 in Kathmandu district, 69 in Bhaktapur, and 100 in Lalitpur.
The MoHP has called for the implementation of a "Larva Search and Destroy" campaign to prevent the outbreak and spread of dengue. Additionally, the government will cover the treatment costs for dengue patients in public healthcare facilities, according to the Ministry.
The Division also reported 75 cases of cholera across the country. Dr. Dahal noted that 50 cholera cases have been detected in Lalitpur district, followed by 10 in Kathmandu, 8 in Kailali, 2 in Pyuthan, 1 in Makawanpur, and 4 in Rolpa.
