SATV 3 April, Birendranagar: Birendranagar Municipality has emphasised tourism promotion. The municipality has stated that it has developed a plan to promote tourism by preserving lakes, parks and Chautaris (rest stops).

Mayor Mohan Maya Dhakal said that Bulbule Lake in Birendranagar has been preserved, a park has been built at Ghantaghar, and a Chautari with Bar and Peepal trees for shade has been maintained.

The recently opened Ghantaghar Park is visited by four to five hundred citizens daily. Visitors take photographs and make videos. Birendranagar's Kankre Bihar, Bulbule Lake, Martyr Park, and Ghantaghar Park are considered prime destinations for domestic tourists.

The municipality has prioritised the construction of Chautaris with Peepal trees and other greenery, along with new tourist structures, aiming to promote tourism by renovating dilapidated sites.

Currently, the construction of a new lake has begun in Bulbule. The lake is being developed as part of the Birendranagar Master Plan for the protection of birds and water resources.

The project, costing Rs. 11.2 million, is being implemented by the Soil and Watershed Management Office under the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment of the province.

Prabin Nirman Sewa has taken charge of the construction, with a target of completing it by July third week this year. Shikhar Chapai, Chief of the Soil and Watershed Management Office, stated that the new lake is being built to prevent water leakage and protect the water source. According to him, the lake will cover an area of 4,020 square meters.

Similarly, Birendranagar is being developed as a green city with a long-term vision of making it more beautiful, cleaner, and environmentally friendly. To achieve this, the municipality is running the "One House, Two Trees—We Take Care of them" programme. Under this initiative, new homeowners in Birendranagar are required to plant two trees in their yards and care for them.

Mayor Dhakal also mentioned that a tree-planting campaign has been launched. According to her, Birendranagar is becoming greener, cleaner, and more beautiful than before. Additionally, fruit saplings have been planted along roadsides, and the municipality is offering a 50 per cent subsidy on fruit saplings to encourage plantation efforts.
