648 climbers from 69 countries get permits to scale 20 Nepali peaks

SATV, Kathmandu, Oct. 2- A total of 648 climbers from 69 countries have obtained permits to scale 20 mountains in Nepal during the autumn climbing season of 2026.

According to the Department of Tourism, the permits have been issued to 71 climbing teams, comprising 485 men and 163 women.

Department information officer Suraj Ghimire said climbers from several countries have obtained permits for the autumn season.

They include 17 from Australia, 16 from Canada, 21 from Japan, 18 from India, 41 from the United States, 38 from the United Kingdom, 15 from Spain, 13 from Switzerland, 57 from Russia, 19 from Poland, 20 from Nepal and 118 from China.

Similarly, 34 climbers from Germany, 51 from France, seven from Belgium, five from Bulgaria, 16 from the Czech Republic and seven from Argentina have obtained climbing permits.

Climbers from several other countries have also received permits.

The Department of Tourism has collected Rs 238.96 million in royalties from the climbing permits issued for the autumn season.

The amount is equivalent to US$1.571 million.

Among the mountains for which permits have been issued, Mount Manaslu (8,163 metres) has attracted the highest number of climbers.

A total of 500 climbers from 43 teams have received permits to climb Manaslu, generating Rs 225.86 million in royalties for the government.

The department said permits have also been issued to 34 climbers from four teams for Dhaulagiri I, 20 climbers from two teams for Putha Hiunchuli, 16 climbers from two teams for Danga Hiunchuli and 10 climbers from one team for Baruntse.

Permits have also been issued for peaks including Makalu, Gangapurna West (Langchenel), Thorong Peak, Norbu Khang, Annapurna IV, Chamlang, Lamjung Himal, Pumori, Saribung, Thapa Peak (Dhampus), Pokharkhang, Ardang and Peri.

The department said the climbing permits issued for these mountains have generated a total revenue of US$1,571,659, equivalent to Rs 238,964,298.
