Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane today visited the Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, and instructed the police personnel to work with honesty and dedication.

Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane was welcomed at the Nepal Police Headquarters by Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh, Additional Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police and other senior police officers. During the inspection visit, Minister Lamichhane inspected the polygraph section and data centre at the Nepal Police headquarters and collected information about the related activities.

During his visit, the home minister addressed the police officers and low-ranking police personnel. He also had a talk with the chiefs of all seven provincial police offices and police chiefs of all the districts through video conferencing. He instructed them to play a significant role in the prevention and control of crime and crime investigation by working round-the-clock. He appreciated all the former police officers and current police officers who contributed to make the organisation strong.

Home Minister Lamichhane further said that priority would be accorded to strengthening the organisation and providing trainings to the police personnel. He assured the low-ranking police personnel that he would do the needful to address their problems and increase their facilities. Minister Lamichhane also told the police officers to provide effective and quick service to the people and adopt zero tolerance against corruption.

Giving special instructions to the police personnel, he further said police should act ruthlessly against gangsters who are given political protection. He also suggested them to create and implement a special action plan to control smuggling and other illegal activities at the border. Likewise, He told the police personnel to be more sensitive towards women, children and senior citizens and provide services accordingly.

Minister Lamichhane said that all police personnel must be committed to using their power given by the law in a fair and transparent manner without being affected by the political pressure. During his adresssal, Lamichhane also informed that the new criteria for transfer and promotion and will be formulated. He said that for transfer and promotion of the police personnel, legal procedure would be followed strictly.

On the occasion, Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh said that he was committed to implementing the instructions given by the home minister. Expressing his belief that Nepal Police will become more professional and energetic in the coming days, he said that the transfer and promotion would be done in a transparent and fair manner based on the performance and efficiency.

During the inspection visit, Senior Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Karki briefed the minister about Nepal Police's organisational structure, human resources and resource management, crime investigation statistics and analysis. He also briefed about the efforts of police in ensuring peace and security and traffic management.

On the occasion, SP of the Central Bureau of Investigation Kamal Thapa presented the progress report of the investigation related to Nirmala Pant's rape and murder case.
