Eid is set to be celebrated on June 29
Passengers have expressed satisfaction as most trains in Chittagong are departing stations on time.
Chittagong Railway Station Manager Ratan Kumar Chowdhury said passengers with advance train tickets have been coming to the station since morning, and all the trains departed on time, except for one.
“All the trains left from Chittagong at scheduled times since morning, but the Bijoy Express train was 30 minutes late,” he said.
The official also said that over 12,000 passengers were leaving Chittagong to celebrate with families daily.
Sources said that 10 intercity, four mail, and Eid special trains are leaving from Chittagong stations to various destinations including Dhaka, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Chandpur on different routes every day.
Meanwhile, Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka has been experiencing an increasing number of passengers as city dwellers begin their journeys home in anticipation of the Eid ul-Azha, set to be celebrated on June 29.
Following the shutdown of all educational institutions and associated government and private entities on June 22, people have started heading home since Friday.
The number of passengers reportedly increased further on Saturday.
Advance ticket sales for inter-city trains started on June 14.
Similarly, the sale of return advance tickets started on June 22.
Like Eid-ul-Fitr, 100% of tickets were sold online.
Train tickets were sold in two shifts this time to prevent the e-ticket server from going down due to the pressure of excess buyers.
Besides, eight pairs of special trains will be operated for the Eid journey.
