
SATV,Kathmandu — To celebrate International Children’s Day, a public welfare event titled “Chinese Culture on Campus” was held at Shree Gaurishankar Public School in Dolakha District, near the site of the Tamakoshi V Hydropower Project. The event was jointly organized by the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD), the Nepal China Cultural Center, and Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina).
The program featured the establishment of a new library, cultural exchange activities, and donations of educational and sports materials, bringing festive greetings to local students and teachers while promoting cultural understanding and people-to-people ties between China and Nepal.

As part of the event, PowerChina supported the construction of the “Sowing Hope, Supporting Growth” library and donated school supplies to the school. The Nepal China Cultural Center organized a Chinese culture exhibition and a photo exhibition showcasing Chinese tourist cities, while the China Foundation for Rural Development distributed sports kits to students to encourage healthy physical development.

The newly established library is equipped with Chinese-themed books in the Nepali language suitable for students of different age groups. It also displays cultural materials provided by the Nepal China Cultural Center, creating a new platform for local students to learn about Chinese culture and broaden their international perspectives. In addition, the donated sports equipment is expected to improve the school’s physical education facilities and support students’ overall development.

The event began with a traditional welcome ceremony performed by local students. Representatives from the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the Nepal China Cultural Center, the China Foundation for Rural Development Nepal Office, local government authorities, school officials, and project representatives attended a lamp-lighting ceremony and jointly inaugurated the new library and cultural exhibition.

The activity was organized and implemented by the Tamakoshi V Hydropower Project team of PowerChina and forms an important part of the broader “Chinese Culture on Campus” initiative. Organizers said the program not only supports educational development in project communities but also serves as a practical effort to strengthen cultural exchanges and friendship between the people of China and Nepal.
Students also participated in a variety of Chinese cultural experience activities, including paper-cutting and Chinese knot-making workshops. Through these interactive sessions, students gained firsthand exposure to traditional Chinese culture. The distribution of panda-themed gifts and mascots further enlivened the celebration, bringing smiles and excitement to the children.

In the sports segment of the program, PowerChina employees joined students in friendly badminton and volleyball matches, fostering interaction and friendship while strengthening ties between project staff and the local community.

Speaking at the event, Zhu Feng, Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, said the International Children’s Day celebration carried special significance. He noted that while PowerChina has introduced advanced clean energy technologies to Nepal, it has also worked with cultural and charitable organizations to bring educational and cultural opportunities to local schools. He described the event as a vivid example of the integration of corporate responsibility, cultural exchange, and public welfare.

Chen Xu, Country Representative of PowerChina Nepal Representative Office, highlighted the company’s long-term commitment to Nepal, from the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project to the Tamakoshi V Hydropower Project. He emphasized that true partnership extends beyond infrastructure development to caring for the growth and well-being of future generations. He reaffirmed PowerChina’s commitment to contributing to China-Nepal friendship and cooperation.
Wang Hua, a representative of Sinohydro Bureau 6 Co., Ltd., said the company adheres to the principle of “building a project while benefiting local communities.” He noted that alongside promoting clean energy development, the company actively participates in educational support and community development initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility and China-Nepal friendship.

Director Liu of the Nepal China Cultural Center expressed hope that the event would bring the richness of Chinese culture closer to Nepali children and allow cultural exchanges and mutual learning to continue serving as a source of inspiration for the friendship between the two countries.
Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of the China Foundation for Rural Development Nepal Office, said the foundation has been supporting children’s education and welfare in Nepal since 2015 through school assistance programs, learning resource development, and extracurricular activities. She noted that the foundation has already established four libraries in Nepal in partnership with PowerChina and pledged continued cooperation to promote inclusive education and sustainable community development.

Local government representatives, teachers, students, and parents expressed their appreciationforthe long-term support provided by Chinese institutions and enterprises and voiced hopes for further cooperation in education and youth development.
Organizers said the International Children’s Day celebration not only provided local children with a memorable cultural experience and festive joy but also further strengthened the friendship between the people of China and Nepal, injecting new momentum into bilateral cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
