SATV, Kathmandu– May 23, 2025 — In a landmark celebration of human spirit and Himalayan legacy, Everest Alliance Nepal has announced the inaugural Everest Summiteers Summit 2025, set to take place on May 27, 2025 (Jestha 13, 2082) at The Soaltee, Kathmandu.
With the theme "Honoring the Legends, Inspiring the Future," the event is poised to bring together over 175 Everest summiteers from 16 countries, alongside global leaders in mountaineering, conservation, tourism, media, science, and government.
More than just a summit, the gathering aims to serve as a living tribute to resilience, adventure, and shared responsibility for the mountains that inspire the world.
Honoring the Past
A major highlight of the summit will be the presentation of the Everest Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Kancha Sherpa, the last surviving member of the legendary 1953 British expedition that first conquered Everest. His recognition stands as a symbol of the deep-rooted Sherpa contribution to Himalayan history.
The event will also feature a commemorative segment titled "Remembering Everest Eternal", paying homage to the legacy of all Everest climbers—those who have reached the summit and those who perished in the pursuit.
Shaping the Future
The summit goes beyond celebration by fostering dialogue on the future of mountain regions and their fragile ecosystems. Renowned organizations including ICIMOD, IUCN, WWF, ZSL, NTNC, and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality will lead panels focused on mountain conservation, high-altitude ecosystems, and sustainable development.
Key sessions such as "Legends Speak, Inspiring the Future" and "Solidarity for Everest – A Global Approach" will provide a platform for thought leaders, mountaineers, and policymakers to explore collaborative solutions and share personal narratives.
In addition, attendees can engage with art and photography exhibitions, and interactive Everest story rooms that vividly capture the awe and trials of scaling the world’s highest peak.
A Vision of Unity and Sustainability
Organized by Everest Alliance Nepal, a non-political, non-shareholding organization, the summit underscores the alliance’s mission to promote sustainability, unity, and innovation in Himalayan regions. By spotlighting the experiences of climbers and the urgent needs of mountain environments, the event hopes to spark global action and awareness.
As the world turns its eyes to Kathmandu this May, the Everest Summiteers Summit 2025 promises to be not just a milestone in mountaineering history, but a catalyst for a more united and sustainable future for the Himalayas.
Celebrating Unity Through Sport
Adding a unique cultural dimension to this year’s observance of International Everest Day, a friendly football match will take place on May 28, 2025, at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur, featuring teams composed of Nepalese and Chinese Everest summiteers.
Held under the banner "United by Mountains, Bonded through Football," the match symbolizes the enduring friendship between Nepal and China, and celebrates both the spirit of mountaineering and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. This event marks a rare blend of sportsmanship and summit spirit, bringing climbers together in celebration of international unity.
