SATV 18 March, Kathmandu: In celebration of the 70th anniversary of Nepal-China diplomatic relations, the Nepal Tourism Year 2025, and the Pokhara Tourism Year 2025, the inaugural Chengdu-Pokhara regular commercial chartered flight has landed at Pokhara International Airport today. The flight, carrying 128 tourists, marks a significant step towards enhancing tourism in Nepal, especially in the Pokhara region.
Upon arrival, local residents of Pokhara warmly welcomed the tourists with traditional music and festivities at the airport. The regular flight service between Chengdu and Pokhara is expected to play a crucial role in boosting tourism in both Nepal and Pokhara, according to industry experts.
The Nepal Tourism Board highlighted that this initiative would not only contribute significantly to Nepal’s overall tourism sector but also expand aviation access for the people of western Nepal. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the regular flights will facilitate increased cultural and tourism exchanges between Nepal and China.
During the welcoming ceremony, His Excellency the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Nepal, Chen Song, expressed his excitement for the new flight, describing it as the beginning of a new journey and the realization of the dreams of the people of Pokhara. Reflecting on the long-standing cooperation between Nepal and China, he acknowledged the hard work of various stakeholders, including Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Nepal Tourism Board, and the Chinese Embassy, which made this regular flight possible. He also expressed confidence that this would further strengthen Nepal-China relations.
Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor, Dhanraj Acharya, also extended a warm welcome to the Chinese tourists, emphasizing the tireless efforts put into launching this regular flight. He believes this service will have a profound impact on Pokhara’s tourism industry.
Pradeep Adhikari, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, stated that regular international flights at Pokhara International Airport would significantly enhance the region’s global profile."
The tourists arriving from Chengdu will be guided by World Ways Tours & Travels Nepal, which will take them on tours to Pokhara, Chitwan, Bandipur, and Kathmandu. World Ways has been active in the Nepalese travel and tourism sector since 1992, offering services with more than 35 Chinese-speaking guides.
Additionally, a Nepali delegation led by Mayor Dhanraj Acharya will travel back to Chengdu via the chartered flight for the "Pokhara-Chengdu Flight Promotion and China Sales Mission 2025" event.
This new regular chartered flight service marks a new chapter in Nepal’s tourism and diplomatic ties with China.
